ACROSS FOUR CONTINENTS
A post-contemporary nomad artist, Cerj Lalonde has developed his practice across four continents, shaped by years lived in Montréal, Miami and Shanghai. Visual experimentation meets philosophical inquiry in an ongoing exploration of perception, meaning and the culture of images.
THE PRACTICE
40 years of painting, photography, digital work, installation and multimedia — each a different way of giving form to a thought, a tension, a possibility. An image begins with the artist; what it becomes also belongs to the person who lives with it. One continuous inquiry into how an image holds meaning, now offered as prints.

One Free World For All
A work of art can change a room—and the way we inhabit it. In Cerj Lalonde’s practice, colour, gesture and scale bring sensuality and thought into the same space. A painting can command attention, shift an atmosphere, awaken an unexpected feeling. Radical elegance lives in that encounter: the pleasure of looking, and the freedom to look again.
That freedom reaches beyond the room. From interventions in Montréal’s streets to the worlds envisioned in Fractal Utopia and Facing the Sky, his work moves between the intimate and the collective. Love and vulnerability meet questions of power, identity and cultural conformity. An image can seduce, unsettle, provoke a smile—or return our gaze. What it means remains open to the person who encounters it.
One Free World For All names the aspiration connecting these explorations: a shared humanity that does not erase difference, and a deeper awareness of the world we inhabit together. Style with a Mission gives that aspiration a sensuous presence in everyday life. Art to live with, to think with, and to make room for possibilities we have not yet imagined.
Lalonde moves smoothly from the canvas to the camera, from computers to installations, producing and showcasing an extraordinarily rich and complex body of work created during the last 40 years.
His paintings, installations, photographs, video, and web pages are intended to function each in its own way, as an overt revision and critique of the contemporary art system.

My wife and I have a large home with a large art collection, including a number of paintings by prominent artists.
